LEP Chair – Lancashire Enterprise Partnership

In Lancashire we like to get on with making a difference for all our people and businesses.  These values run through our LEP.  Without shouting about it, we’ve quietly become one of the most successful LEPs in the country, with an economy worth £31bn, a growth deal of £320m and a targeted investment of £1bn.

We’re a key player in the nation’s economy, members of the new ‘Council for the North’ and one of the foundations of the Northern Powerhouse.  We have a globally significant aerospace cluster and the largest manufacturing base outside of the South East.  We are a complex patchwork of interests and sectors, with global, high-tech, research-led industries operating side by side with thriving rural and tourist economies.  But we also have challenges.  The gaps in incomes, opportunities and therefore life outcomes are too great across the County.  Whilst addressing this we must continue to exploit, drive and develop a sustainable, competitive and productive world class economy.

As our new Chair you’ll certainly be kept busy.  You’ll lead us through the next stage of our development. This will include working through and shaping a new future following the LEP review, introducing a Local Industrial Strategy, embedding new relationships, engaging across the County, harnessing all the strengths of a high calibre private sector led Board, bringing us a national profile and ensuring a relentless focus on delivery. You’ll serve all of Lancashire and every sector, visible to our 52,000 businesses and 1.5m people.

You’ll see the big picture, understand what makes our economy tick and what’s needed to accelerate growth.  With deep private sector experience, you’ll be relentlessly commercial, but understand that real cross-sector partnerships create strong foundations for success.  As comfortable on the shop floor as in the corridors of power where you’ll be meeting the PM or Ministers, you’ll have a style that builds alliances and exerts quiet influence.  You’ll be scrupulously open-minded, driven by your passion for Lancashire and a thirst for something better.  You’ll have the political judgement and resilience to take tough decisions when needed, bringing simplicity, focus and direction to a complex system.

You’ll build your credibility through how you influence, marshal all resources and use your profile to achieve a sustainable, step-change in our economy.  We know we’re asking a lot.  But what else would you expect?  If you think you’re prepared to stand up and be counted for the County that you love, then we want to talk.
